The Pain Specialists of Southern Oregon are expanding to add a new state-of-the-art surgery center that is scheduled to open by the end of August
MEDFORD, Ore. — The Pain Specialists of Southern Oregon are expanding to add a new state-of-the-art surgery center that is scheduled to open by the end of August 2018.
The Crater Lake Surgery Center will be the new location for all Pain Specialists of Southern Oregon patient procedures.
“A lot of the procedures that we do in our office now and at the hospital transfer to this building,” said Joe Savino, a Pain Specialist of Southern Oregon owner and physician, “We do a lot of middle of minimally invasive procedures to treat chronic pain in particular and sub-acute pain and we been doing those in our office and at the hospital and we have just grown to the point where we need more space and we need a nicer facility.”
Having the independent location will also make the procedures less expensive for patients.
“When you deliver this care in a hospital setting it comes with a lot of extra fees. The facility itself cost quite a bit to do a procedure in the hospital so you get more nursing, more ancillary charges and it just makes a bigger deal out of these procedures than they need to be. When you do it in ambulatory surgery center the costs go way down,” said Savino.
The surgery center will also make each procedure go quicker because there won’t be the same volume of patients as a hospital. On a typical day the Medford clinic will see about 100 patients and perform anywhere from 10-15 surgeries.
“I think what we’re offering is a better patient experience here. We really want patients to be able to come in and have their procedures and go home in a short amount of time. It should not take a patient half a day to have a basic, minimally invasive, spine surgery. It should be an hour-long experience for them. We really want to build this facility to efficiently deliver that care and we think we can do that better and an ambulatory surgery setting rather than at the hospital,” said Savino.
Pain Specialists of Southern Oregon treat patients with chronic pain and use alternative resources and treatments outside of opioids to reduce pain.
The surgery center will be located at 825 Bennett Ave.
